The Evaluation of Sterilization Patterns of Dental Clinics in Taegu City

Abstract
The purpose of present survey was to determine the sterilization patterns of dental instruments and prevention levels to prevent cross-infections of dental clinics in Taegu city. For this, 6 general hospitals, 102 private dental clinics and 20 provincial public health center were selected and surveyed with a direct question survey method. The results were as follows ; 1. Among 290 persons of dental man-powers, 179 persons(61.72%) had routine check of their own general health, 175 persons(60.34%) had been vaccinated with B-type hepatitis vaccine, and 113 persons(38.97%) replied that they had antibodies of B-type hepatitis. 2. Among 102 dentists of private dental clinec, the dentist who took history taking of past medical history such as viral hepatitis and tuberculosis was 6.9%. In multiple answers of preventive measures to prevent cross-infection, 89.6% was used to mask, 46.7% used gloves, 40.0% used the protective glasses, 15.6% used the high sucction apparatus, and 9.6% were always used the rubber-dam during dental treatments. 3. The most favorable sterilization method among 135 dentists was autoclaving(64.4%) and ultraviolet sterilization(28.1%), sterilize by boiling(3.7%), chemical sterilization(3.7%) in descending order. 4. The percentage of re-use of lidcatine amples in 102 private dental clinic was 20.6% and re-use of disposable local anesthetic needle was 5.9%
